Julian has had a career spanning over 25 years as a solicitor in both City and West End firms specialising in litigation and dispute resolution. He is particularly experienced in engineering, construction, oil and gas and infrastructure disputes. He was formerly the head of the Engineering, Construction and Procurement group in leading City firm, Berwin Leighton Paisner LLP, and was a partner in the firm from 2000 to 2008.
Julian is an acknowledged expert in so called ”Alternative Dispute Resolution” (mediation, expert determination and other forms of resolving a dispute without going to trial. (“ADR”). He has been an accredited mediator since 1992 and was a director of CEDR (Centre for Dispute Resolution, the UK’s leading ADR provider) from inception in the early 1990s until November 2000. He is a member of the Construction Contracts Mediation Group (now part of Resolex) and on the panel of mediators for ADR Chambers. He acts as an adjudicator and is on the CEDR, Royal Institution of British Architects and Construction Industry Council panels. He regularly writes on legal issues in the construction sector and is a case notes editor of the Construction Law Journal.
Julian is on the panel of arbitrators for the China International Economic and Trade Arbitration Commission (CIETAC), the Dubai International Arbitration Commission and is also a member and on the panel of the International Arbitration Institute (IAI).
Julian speaks good conversational French and German and can work with documents in those languages.
Services Provided
Julian is available to act as mediator, adjudicator, arbitrator and as key resolver in all other forms of dispute resolution. He also offers a “Project Troubleshooting” service for clients in the engineering, construction and associated sectors. He is also available to be appointed to sit on Dispute Resolution Boards and similar tribunals.
